Celebrity Hairstyles – How Do You Keep Up WIth Celebrity Hairstyle Trends?

February 28, 2007

Everybody loves celebrities they are today’s heroes and heroines – their fashion styles are copied by high street stores and are available all over the world. We want to look as good as our idols, and hope that if we copy their hair, their make-up, and their clothes, we may eventually have their success. Of course, we don’t have the advantage of a team of professional make-up artists, stylists and photographers – no matter so long as we think we look a little like them then we are happy!

There are other perfectly good reasons to copy the celebrity hairstyles. Unlike them we may not be able to afford some of the best beauty professionals in the industry – but we still get an idea of the style. Their stylists are usually at the front of the fashion trends and we want to be the first to copy them.

Farrah Fawcett Major’s 1970’s haircut became almost iconic and is still copied by many women. Farrah Fawcett Major is the American actress who starred in the series ‘Charlie’s Angels’. Her blond, rough cut, layered and feathered, flicked style was copied by young women everywhere and it is a stile that can still be seen.

The most popular celebrity hairstyle of the 80’s was that of the actress Meg Ryan, whose tousled, layered hair which accentuated her natural wave it was asked for so often that it made some stylists question whether there would ever again be requests for a style than ‘the Meg Ryan Cut’.

Jennifer Aniston and Jennifer Lopez’s locks are the most copied celebrity hairstyles of today and some people say that Jessica Simpson’s style could be added to the list.

Nowadays men are also interested in their hero’s style and male celebrity hairstyles are also carefully watched by the hairstyle experts. Ashton Kutcher’s tousled textured hair is rapidly gaining in popularity closely followed by the styles of Matthew Fox, Adrien Brody, and Johnny Depp.

Take a look back over the last forty years and you’ll see that fashion changes rapidly, month by month. If you hope to be at the cutting edge, so to speak, then you need to keep a constant check on web-sites dedicated to celebrity hairstyles to get a clear idea of what the ‘in’ thing is and who is wearing. Not all the websites and hair magazines agree with each other, so do some research and compare notes.

Take the changing ‘in’ styles over just the last year for instance and you’ll get some idea of how quickly fashion changes. Consider color for example, during winter the soft, rich brown tones were popular and platinum white/blonde color tones not considered to be ‘in’. This changed during summer ash and platinum blondes were ‘in’ but dark brown and red were most definitely out. As for style; the old school glamour styles of summer were replaced with flicked back curls during autumn, and solid bangs and headbands for winter. Yes, you certainly need to keep an eye on hairstyle fashion if you want to look like a celebrity!

Just bear in mind that you don’t have a celebrity hairstyle team on hand so make sure you choose a hairstyle that is easy to keep looking good all day. Not only should you like the look of it, it should suit you. Some styles may look great on a celebrity but when you try them are totally wrong for your shape face or hair type. It’s best to have a collection of pictures of celebrity hairstyles you like and then ask your hairstylist which one they think would suit you best.

Summary:

Celebrities can afford the best hairstylists and often wear the latest trends making fashion statements that others want to follow. But fashion changes quickly. How do you keep up with celebrity hairstyle trends?

Preserving Memories With a Work of Art – Creating a Memory Quilt Wall Hanging

February 27, 2007

Parents are always looking for ways to preserve the precious memories of their children’s early years, yet we give away a cherished memory without even realizing it all the time. We take thousands of photographs and endless hours of videos. And if you’re like most parents, the pictures and tapes get boxed away for the future, or possibly get organized into albums that are stored away. We store away their early art work or projects, curls from their first haircuts, and most everything else we can think of that someday will bring back those fond memories of early childhood.

The one thing we seem to ignore is the clothes that they wore during those years. We donate them to good causes, pass them on to friends and family that have younger children or simply discard the ones that may be unsuitable for wearing any longer.

We all have our favorite outfits that we dress our children in – the ones we know made them the most adorable kid around. It may be the little blue dress with a teddy bear on the front, the tiny tan corduroys and jean shirt that showed he was ready for the toddler’s version of GQ, or perhaps its daddy’s baseball tee-shirt she adopted as her favorite night shirt. These outfits will either be given away, destroyed, or if you’re sentimental you may pack them away in the attic – that is until now!

One the greatest gifts a mom could ever receive or give to herself is to turn these pieces of clothing into a treasured keepsake and a true work of art. Creating a memory quilt wall hanging can be one of the most fulfilling quilting projects you will ever enjoy. If you are handy with a sewing machine and not sure of exactly how to create a memory quilt, many local quilt shops will offer classes that will guide you from start to finish. If quilting and sewing is something you feel is better left to others, those same local quilt shops can most likely find someone that will create the quilt for you and allow you to help in the design of the quilt.

When creating a memory quilt there are a few points that will make it extra special:

* Be selective – choose items that bring about the fondest memories for you. Do not simply dismiss an item because of a stain or hole. You do not need to, nor should you use the entire garment. You can always find a useable piece of fabric from any item.

* Think outside the box – stay away from squares. Sure you will need to have some straight edges to square up the sides but inside the quilt you can use the round edges of sleeves, the bottom of a dress, or just about any kind of shape you can imagine.

* Use texture to your advantage – select different types of fabrics that lend a variety of surfaces to the quilt. Make people want to touch and feel the materials you used, by using the fur collar from a coat, mix flannels and cottons.

* Use photos – if you have photos of your child in a particular outfit, scan the photo into your computer and print the photo onto fabric specially designed for inkjet printers. Cut the photo fabric out and incorporate it into the quilt by sewing the photo onto the very outfit in the photo.

* Stabilize stretchable fabrics – sew or iron stretchable fabrics onto a stabilizing fabric. This will help the quilt retain its shape and make it easier to work with.

* Experiment – lay the items down onto a large table, the floor or a design wall to envision how the finished product will look. At this stage you can simply overlay the clothes without actually cutting. This will allow you to make changes before it’s too late. As always, live by the quilters and carpenters golden rule here – measure twice and cut once.

* Don’t traumatize your children – if you have a child emotionally attached to a particular item, think twice about cutting it up. If it has been out of sight for a while and not been missed, then it’s probably safe to use, but don’t cut it up in front of your child.

* Have fun with it – remember this is a work of love and the more fun you have creating it, the more love will show in the finished quilt.

A memory quilt wall hanging can be the ultimate gift a husband can give to his wife on mother’s day. Now, I know that most husbands are not capable of doing this alone. Perhaps you can enlist the help of a sister-in-law, sister, mother or yes, even a mother-in-law to assist you. Even if you do nothing more than organize the effort and sneak the clothes out of the house without her noticing that will be a huge help. If you do manage to surprise her, I assure you there are few gifts that will measure up to a treasured tribute to her children. If it’s impossible to surprise her, simply suggest the idea to her, participate in the project and you will be a hero in her eyes.

Don’t throw away your memories – preserve them and decorate your home at the same time with a priceless family heirloom.

How To Get The Best Cut For Your Face Shape

February 26, 2007

Have you ever went to the salon, hairstyle magazine in hand, hoping to have your locks transformed into the latest trend featured on the front page only to have your stylist tell you that you do not have the right shaped face to wear the style, or, worse yet, your stylist puts that exact haircut on you, but you look nothing like the model wearing the cut in the magazine?

We?ve all had horrible experiences in the stylist chair. Most of the time they are not technical errors, but errors when it comes to choosing the right style to compliment our facial structure and build.

When choosing the perfect hairstyle for your unique look, stylists should take into account your build. For example, close cropped styles would not suit a person with a large frame, nor would a full-bodied style compliment a person with a small frame. Making sure that your style and frame balance is the key here.

Stylists also should look at your face shape when choosing the best look for you. There are five basic face shapes: oval, heart, round, square and triangular.

All of these shapes can be beautiful, but one is ideal: oval. No matter what shaped face you have, achieving the perfect look involves picking the right cut or style that will make your face appear more oval.

Oval face shapes are identified by the perfect symmetry of certain facial features, such as the distance from the hairline to the bridge of the nose (between the eyes), from the bridge of the nose to the lips, and from the lips to the bottom of the chin. If your face is oval shaped, you can consider yourself to be very lucky. This shape is the only one that is complimented by almost every hairstyle imaginable.

Heart shaped faces are usually broader through the forehead and taper to a point at the chin. You can make this shaped face appear more oval by positioning the weight of the haircut at chin level, or by wearing bangs in shorter styles. Keep in mind that the goal is to minimize the forehead and to bring prominence to the chin.

Round faces are just that: round. They have wide cheekbones and are usually smaller through the forehead and chin. The goal here is to minimize the cheekbones. Styles with height in the bang and sides cut toward the face usually work best.

Square faces have a bold forehead and an angular jaw line. Styles with soft edges, and a great deal of texture directed toward the face really suit this shape. The length should be kept longer than jaw length to draw attention away from the jaw, but, at the same time, that length should be layered. A straight, sleek style would only serve to accent the angular lines of the face.

Triangular shaped faces are angular at the jaw line, but narrow through the forehead. They can be treated much the same way that square faces are treated, with one exception; more height and fullness is needed throughout the crown and bang areas to make this section of the face appear larger.

Now that you know what your stylist knows, take this knowledge with you on your next salon visit. This time, when you thumb through the style books and magazines, you will be able to zero in on your perfect new cut. Good Luck!

Making New Friends

February 25, 2007

Making New Friends

 by: Skye Thomas

How do we make friends? More importantly if dropped into a new city or a new job or a new school, how do we go about making a new friends? Most of us dont really think about it, but just sort of allow people to float in and out of our lives without really paying any attention to how we pull new people into our lives.

Years ago, my son was four years old and starting preschool. He had been begging to go for about a year and was thrilled that he was finally there. He had longed to play on their playground. He really loved all of the noise and commotion of such a large day care center. He was fascinated by the sight of all those other children running around laughing and playing. He was so excited to dive in and start hanging out with those other kids. He was naturally outgoing and energetic, and had wonderful social skills so I knew hed get along just fine. I was a bit surprised when he came up to me after a few weeks and said that he was really struggling because as the new kid he didnt have any friends.

How do I get some friends to play with me?

I told him that every week I would give him a new assignment. I explained to him that you dont want to run through these steps too fast because it makes people nervous and theyll push you away. You want to give them time to adjust to you as you go through these steps.

For the first week all he had to do was smile a nice big smile and say, Hi! He needed to walk around saying hi to teachers and students alike. Whoever seemed cool in his opinion. He didnt have to be a geek about it and say hi to everyone, just those he thought seemed kind of interesting. This gives people the impression that youre an upbeat positive person, but not too pushy. Greet them everyday with a smile on your face.

For the second week, he had to start adding their names to the cheerful greeting. When you see someone you like, smile real big and say Hi Joey! or Hi Suzy! or Hi Anthony! Just start learning their names and adding it to your hellos. This way theyre already used to your pleasant greetings and it just personalizes it a bit. Greet them with a personalized greeting everyday.

For the third week, I told him to give them an honest compliment along with the greeting. Dont make it something big and embarrassing, but something small and comfortable for them to hear you say out loud in front of others. Hi Joey! I love your Ninja Turtle T-shirt! or Hi Suzy! I really like the way you color within the lines, looks great! or Hi Anthony! Nice haircut dude! The key to this step is honesty. You have to find something you truly like about the person to compliment. People get an odd feeling and on some level can sense when others are being fake or insincere with them. Be honest, be upbeat, and personalize the greeting and the compliment. Again, do it every day. Consistency really matters. Youre not just making them feel good about themselves, but creating a public image of yourself as a consistently upbeat positive person.

For the fourth week, I was going to have him include an invitation to play with him in with his greetings, but he never got that far. He was having such a good time with all of his new friends that he never really bothered with any more lessons. He was very popular and well loved from that point on.

Every time hes changed schools or neighborhoods or started going to a new church or gone away to camp or whatever, he has always used that same system to make new friends. Its foolproof and always works for him. Hes just started high school this year and is incredibly confident in his ability to make new friends. Now, he simply walks up to strangers, flashes them his best grin, in a charming and almost clown like manner he greets them with a big hug, and will tell them he loves them before he even introduces himself. He just hams it up like a beloved comedian and delivers whatever silly greeting will make kids laugh. Its beautiful to watch him. There isnt a shy bone in that kids body!

Can we as adults do the same thing? I know that if I really look at my own behaviors, the times that friends have seemed a bit scarce were when I wasnt doing a lot of reaching out and greeting them. If I wasnt personalizing my conversations towards them and I wasnt handing out the compliments, then new people didnt seem to stick around and develop into friendships. Most people are a lot more insecure and shy then they let on, and they really feel good when someone else notices them enough to learn their name and to greet them with a real compliment. It usually makes them feel comfortable enough to respond and to begin opening up.

Its a really simple exercise consistently greet them, personalize the greeting, and then add a compliment to the greeting, if you arent friends by then, offer an invitation along with the greeting. People love to feel likeable. This system lets them know that you think theyre likeable without making you feel like an uncomfortable nerd. Its slow enough paced to not be forced, unnatural, or pushy. We humans have funny little behavioral rules and rituals that we follow instinctively and red warning flags pop up when someone doesnt approach us just right. Deep down, I think were still just as skittish and easily spooked away as the first cavemen. Give them time to check you out. Its amazing how beautifully this works.

The Right Hair Syle For Work!

February 24, 2007

The newest version of the short hair cut is longer layers and fringe in the front with the back cut in shorter, softer layers. You can adopt a nice short trendy hair cut with hair cut short above years on the sides. Another hot favorite is the one where the hairs are drastically cut short from the neck area. You can cut your hair drastically short to show your ears.? Take some time to consider which short hair cut will best suit you. The most important thing to consider with a short hair cut is the upkeep. That’s the thing with short hair, it’s either too short or needs a cut.?

Find out how to make a short hair cut work best for you. A great cut is the secret to exquisitely coiffed short hair.

Short Hair cuts almost always makes a lady look younger than her age, while long flowing hair tends to make a lady look more matured. That’s why older women usually wear short hair or wear it up. Women with thick straight hair is a shorter version of a shag, to keep the overall look from being too boxy or square. I know of at least two women whom I admire and think are beautiful who sport very short, dark hair. However, where my sister lives (Indiana), short-haired women are few and far between. Working women prefer either short hair, knotted hair or a nice and comfortable Joura. I tend to find short hair more attractive overall, but especially on women with “pixie” or triangle-shaped faces. I am not saying I never dated long haired women but short hair is what I like. I think its because I associate short hair with like middle aged women. Women with short hair always look as if they have somewhere else to go. They have totally broken Chinese traditional concepts of hair-styling – in which long hair is suitable for women and short hair for men. There have been several periods in history when women wore short hair.?

Hot Trends in Women’s Wigs and Headwear, Plus Other Current Hair Fashions

February 23, 2007

Need a Quick Fix?

In today’s world of hustle and bustle, it is hard to keep up with the ever-changing fashion and social trends. When it comes to hair and headwear trends, everyone wants to look their best. The challenge is looking your best without the fuss. One growing trend among women who have to look great in a snap is the use of wigs. With a wide variety of women’s wigs to choose from it is possible to create any style you wish.

Is A Wig for Me?

There are several reasons in which women’s wigs are a growing headwear fashion. A lot of women choose wigs when they want to change their hair color but do not want to risk damaging their natural hair. Some use wigs to cover up a bad haircut.

A more common reason in which women’s wigs are used is because of hair loss problems. Whether it’s from chemo treatments, medical conditions, or trauma, a wig will help to ease the embarrassment. There are literally thousands of wigs to choose from, ranging in various lengths from short to long. The color options are unlimited, and style is a matter of design. You may choose from a selection of pre-cut styles or have one designed to suit your personal preferences.

Other Headwear Accessories

Maybe a wig just isn’t for you. In addition to women’s wigs, there are many other popular women’s headwear trends. Hats, turbans, scarves, caps, hair extensions, falls, add-ons, hair enhancers, ponytails, and ponytail wraps are all popular among the modern fashion crowd.

Women’s Caps

For the active women out there who prefer not to use women’s wigs, a common style is to pull your hair up into a ponytail and put on a cap. From the traditional baseball caps to designer caps – with such a wide assortment in headwear, you can keep your hair under control and look your best at just about any casual event.

Women’s Hats

Hats have been a popular style for centuries. It doesn’t matter if you need a winter hat or a summer hat, the choices are unlimited. A hat is sure to jazz up any outfit for church gatherings or social events. One great thing about a hat is it works great with women’s wigs or natural hair.

Women’s Scarves and Turbans

Scarves aren’t made just to wrap around your neck anymore. Today it is very popular to use scarves as headwear to accessorize your hair. Whether you spiff up a ponytail or completely cover your head, scarves are a beautiful way to accent an outfit or hide the fact that you didn’t have time to fix your hair or go to a salon!

Women’s wigs can be accented with the use of scarves as well. Or, you may choose to use a turban. Women’s turbans are available in several gorgeous materials and colors. Why are turbans a popular choice? They are simple yet beautiful.

So, the next time you’re feeling bored with your hair-do, why not change things a little and add a wig, scarf or turban to your hair accessories? Then you can achieve the look you want without harming your natural hair.
