Curly Hair – Don’t Quit On Those Curls!

March 10, 2007

Cursing your curly locks? Trust me, those with straight hair are wishing they were you. So with these curls come options. Do you wear it curly or do you take the time to straighten? Chances are, if you straighten you already know exactly what to do and when you want to wear curls, you question how to style without the frizz and loosing your curls. There are some important tips to follow so you can get the most beautiful curl possible that will hold all day.

When shampooing your hair always use a moisture rich shampoo and conditioner. While the conditioner is on brush it through with a wide tooth comb. This is the last time you should run a comb through your hair until your next shampooing and NEVER use a brush on curly hair. When done DO NOT towel dry your hair. The friction will open the cuticle and that’s what causes the frizz. So, just blot gently and then apply product.

When you are leaving your hair curly you should always use a smoothing and curling product and it should be applied when the hair is wet and saturated. Apply the product from the bottom of the shaft making your way up to the root in a ?scrunching? motion. If you choose to blow dry you must use a diffuser because the full force of air without it will also move the cuticle again causing frizz. For beautiful, full curls let your hair air dry without any manipulation at all. Once you see how springy your curls can be and how easy it is to achieve once you know how, your curls will be the envy of every straight haired girl! One more very important thing for the perfect curly head is to get a good haircut. Find a stylist who has curly hair. She is the one who can best relate! How to Choose The Best Highlights for Your Cut

March 2, 2007

With so many highlighting techniques out there, it can be confusing when it comes to choosing the right type of highlights for your style and cut. But with a few pointers, you can have highlights that compliment your cut and style in a way that you’ve never imagined.

Many of today’s highlighting techniques like chunking and slicing are geared toward younger audiences with trendy haircuts. But if you have a classic cut, these techniques can give you a look that is a little mismatched or over the top. So, instead of opting for those boring frosting cap highlights that you’ve worn for the past 10 years, why not try a new technique that is just as classy but one that will bring your hair into this century.

The highlighting technique I’m talking about is multiple color weaving. By weaving 2 or 3 different colors into your strands with different densities use on different parts of your head, your stylist can create a custom highlighted look that cannot be emulated by anyone else. Granted, weaves have been around for a while, but the key to keeping them fresh is to change the color and color density to compliment your particular cut and style.

If you have ultra short hair, highlights can end up looking a bit spotted. But by combing color only onto the tips and predetermined areas of this style, your stylist can create a custom look that emphasizes your cut’s trendy lines. Why not try a splash of vibrant red in the bangs or a few blond spiked tips in the back?

Perhaps no styles are best suited for chunking and slicing than today’s textured bobs. These styles can be taken up a notch or two by simply placing a couple of streaks near the face. You can also put a few highlights on the tips of the hair. This is great especially if you wear your ends messy or flipped out. The color will work add interest and movement to your style.

In addition to trying different highlighting techniques, you can also experiment with different colors. Gone are the days of boring pale-yellow highlights. Today’s highlights are infused with color and color variations. In fact, some colors use multiple colors from a varying palette to add interest and drama. There used to be a day when one did not mix browns, blonds and reds all on the same head of hair. Now, that day is history.

Hot Trends in Women’s Wigs and Headwear, Plus Other Current Hair Fashions

February 23, 2007

Need a Quick Fix?

In today’s world of hustle and bustle, it is hard to keep up with the ever-changing fashion and social trends. When it comes to hair and headwear trends, everyone wants to look their best. The challenge is looking your best without the fuss. One growing trend among women who have to look great in a snap is the use of wigs. With a wide variety of women’s wigs to choose from it is possible to create any style you wish.

Is A Wig for Me?

There are several reasons in which women’s wigs are a growing headwear fashion. A lot of women choose wigs when they want to change their hair color but do not want to risk damaging their natural hair. Some use wigs to cover up a bad haircut.

A more common reason in which women’s wigs are used is because of hair loss problems. Whether it’s from chemo treatments, medical conditions, or trauma, a wig will help to ease the embarrassment. There are literally thousands of wigs to choose from, ranging in various lengths from short to long. The color options are unlimited, and style is a matter of design. You may choose from a selection of pre-cut styles or have one designed to suit your personal preferences.

Other Headwear Accessories

Maybe a wig just isn’t for you. In addition to women’s wigs, there are many other popular women’s headwear trends. Hats, turbans, scarves, caps, hair extensions, falls, add-ons, hair enhancers, ponytails, and ponytail wraps are all popular among the modern fashion crowd.

Women’s Caps

For the active women out there who prefer not to use women’s wigs, a common style is to pull your hair up into a ponytail and put on a cap. From the traditional baseball caps to designer caps – with such a wide assortment in headwear, you can keep your hair under control and look your best at just about any casual event.

Women’s Hats

Hats have been a popular style for centuries. It doesn’t matter if you need a winter hat or a summer hat, the choices are unlimited. A hat is sure to jazz up any outfit for church gatherings or social events. One great thing about a hat is it works great with women’s wigs or natural hair.

Women’s Scarves and Turbans

Scarves aren’t made just to wrap around your neck anymore. Today it is very popular to use scarves as headwear to accessorize your hair. Whether you spiff up a ponytail or completely cover your head, scarves are a beautiful way to accent an outfit or hide the fact that you didn’t have time to fix your hair or go to a salon!

Women’s wigs can be accented with the use of scarves as well. Or, you may choose to use a turban. Women’s turbans are available in several gorgeous materials and colors. Why are turbans a popular choice? They are simple yet beautiful.

So, the next time you’re feeling bored with your hair-do, why not change things a little and add a wig, scarf or turban to your hair accessories? Then you can achieve the look you want without harming your natural hair.

Job Interview Checklist

February 15, 2007

Having prepared your best for your dream job interview, it would feel pretty bad to miss out something trivial which has the potential to “make or break” your candidacy. There are many things that can cause a serious negative impact in the eyes of your potential employer. Because you should not leave your job search to chance, it is best to have a checklist of things to do and carry to the interview and follow it.

By following these steps, you can ensure that your best foot is put forward. Your preperation will not only shine through on the day of your intereview, but it will show your professionalism to your possible future employer.

General Checklist

1. Do you have a neat haircut and did you shave? 2. Do you have your suit pressed and cleaned? 3. Are your shoes shined?

Checklist of Things to Carry

1. Always have extra copies of your resume 2. Have photocopies of your credentials, including your school certificates and any other certificates of professional training you may have 3. Keep a neat notepad and a good pen 4. A copy of your application with cover letter 5. Your references neatly typed on resume paper 6. Instructions on how to reach the interview location including whom to meet and at what time 7. A list of expected questions and a list of questions you want to ask the interviewer

After you are finished with the above list, you are almost done with your preparation. You should then check the following:

1. Check the directions if you are traveling by car. Also get the car and the spare tire serviced beforehand. 2. If you are traveling by airplane, keep the tickets handy and check the times again 3. Read your resume and cover letter again on your way to the recruiter’s office or at the office. Don’t forget to read the job advertisement again also. 4. Quietly try to recollect your subject knowledge 5. Losing your confidence in the interviewer’s office will immediately remove you from the list of potential candidates. Try to remember how well you have prepared for the interview. 6. Recollect whatever information you have gathered about the organization.

When you get to the interview location, be patient and tell the receptionist or assistant that you have come for the interview. Wait in the lounge if you are asked to. You can strike up small talk with fellow interviewees if there are any. Better still, you can browse through journals or magazines available. These are all parts of showing the interviewer your personality and how it is suited for the job.

Build Your Business Through Referrals

February 12, 2007

Have you considered instating a referral program for your business? Though few businesses can survive by word-of-mouth alone, it is an important aspect to almost any business. The potential clients that you gain through referrals cost you next to nothing while finding potential clients through advertising can be a spendy proposition. Even if youre a guerilla-marketing guru, referrals are still cheapersomething that, as a guerilla marketer, you already realize. Referred clients are also easier to convert to active clients.

Despite this, most businesses dont take any control over the word-of-mouth buzz that they are generating. They dont give a reward to the people who are talking about them anyway and they dont give a push to the people who would be taking about them if they were just a little bit motivated.

The first key element to any referral program is something that you should be doing anyway. Delivering o, even better, over-delivering on your promises. For a referral program to be successful, your business needs to be in good shape. You need to show your clients that you value them, strive to offer them something of value, and make good service a high priority.

Once that is done, reward your clients when they refer someone to you. And let them know that you plan to reward them. There are a lot of different options when it comes to setting up a referral program.

A discount on product or services is probably the most popular form that a referral program takes, but even then such programs can still vary widely. A bookstore might give you coupons to give out to friends and familythe coupon would have your code on it and you would earn points towards discounts or even free products for every coupon of yours that was redeemed. I used to go to a hairdresser that would ask every new client who referred they were referred by. When a person had three referrals to their name they would receive a free haircut.

Another way to set up a referral program is to offer something related that you normally dont provide clients. A landscaping company could offer a gift certificate to a home and garden store, a work out club could offer a gift certificate for a massage or a free work out shirt, or a photographer could give away a pass to a scrapbooking seminar.

A third option is to reward referrals with cash. This type of program is particularly popular on the Internet and often develops into a full-blown affiliate program.

These are just a few ideas for a referral programto generate more ideas ask around to local business and see what, if anything, they have in place.

When you set up your referral program, you need to promote it. Send a letter out to your client list. Post a sign in your office or near your register inviting clients to ask about your referral program. Volunteer information whenever you can.

You also need to have a way to keep track of whos referring who. Whether it becomes part of your initial conversation with a new client to ask how they found out about you (it should be anyway) and you keep track of names or whether you give something to your existing clients to pass along to referrals who will then redeem it when they come in, you need to set up a reliable way of tracking your referrals. Its another promise that you are making to your clients and you need to deliver.

Once you have set up a referral program and taken the time to promote it, chances are good that youll notice your business growing faster and easier than ever.
